Elissa Weaver- Assignment 1 Step 2

10 Fragments plus Images

 1. With the increase of things such as cloning organs, life expectancy continues to increase, that in time could cause severe problems for job openings for the new generation as the retirement age also increases, leading to a huge need for new jobs and larger gap between rich and poor.

 2. Cloud seeding is a way of creating clouds to increase rain or snow; if the technology is perfected areas of severe drought could easily be saved, but a negative use for this innovation would be to create severe storms as a form of warfare.

3.“Feelies” are pods that are used to satisfy sexual desires that in the future could lead to a sharp decrease in sex trafficking, and the spread of STD's. (the novel “Brave New World”)

4. Inventing a way to live on other planets such as Mars, could drastically influence the world's economy with the added resources, of course transporation via space, and countless other aspects of life on earth.

5. Genetic modification in the form of altering DNA before birth would cause an uproar among many religions, but would pave the way for essentially a new generation of humans with the most optimized genes that could eventually take over or even evolve into a new species. (the novel “Brave New World”)

6.A reality TV show is based around a single person's life from conception through death. All aspects of this person's life are controlled and filmed by the producers in a way that the main character never knows. This would overstep basic human rights in many ways and could pave the way for even more questionable acts in the entertainments industry that could extend to other industries. ("The Truman Show")

7. A machine able to store the energy of lightning would revolutionize how the world would power just about everything. It would be cheap and essentially limitless resulting in far less pollution, less harm to the environment, creating a cleaner more streamlined version of the future.

8. Today in places such as northern Europe and cities like Dubai, people have created artificial islands to build their homes. With the increase in population, a solution for more space is to create more of these islands, a better version would be floating islands so that there would be less damage to ocean environments. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artificial_island

9. Mutiple animals like jellyfish and small tropical fish have been genetically modified to have bio- luminescent qualities. In the future, this could be expanded to just about any living organism for aesthetic purposes specifically human body modification such as tattoos, decorative houseplants, or living light fixtures to save energy. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GloFish

10.  Squirrel suits allow human's to glide off buildings or cliff to experience a simulation of flight. In the future if this were to be perfected using some sort of power source (solar, magnets, bio fuel, etc), a new form of transportation would be used, as well as for entertainment.

11. With the creation of new lighter, stronger metal, buildings could be built way over ten times the typical skyscraper height today. Years from now whole cities would be miles above the ground, splitting society literally in two due to the newer “floating” cities being affordable to only the upper class. (“Star Wars”)
